Dusun Kelor often become a destination for college student when doing their social community service. In 2016, during June-August, there were nine college students from Gadjah Mada University that came to Kelor to live in the village for seven weeks. Those college students are Petra, Amer, Nadya, Nimitta, April, Desti, Galih, Nandika, and Rizal; who had took interest in Kelor and were trying to develop and do many sustainable activities.

In the holy month of Ramadhan, much of their time were spent at mosque, along with the youngster and children in TPA (a kind of group for kids to learn about Islam and Al-Quran together). During this time too, the children were given some new knowledge, like “how to brush your teeth correctly” and “why drinking milk is important”. Often, they play gobag sodor and engkling (traditional children play) in the front-yard of the Joglo together. They also help the children with their studies—although at that time, the children were still in holiday. Not only that, the college students also gave idea and help to do the sketch for Al-Amin’s mosque renovation project.

After Ramadhan come to end, a lot of useful activities were held by KKN team. There was a practice to refined snake-fruit into food, such as brownies, pickles, and setup (a kind of sweet drink with the fruit inside), which were liked by housewives. Counseling and health check-up for blood pressure, blood glucose, and uric acid test were also held. Last but not least, counseling about agriculture such as verticulture and hydroponics were offered.

Not only counseling, the KKN team realized that there are concern about garbage and sanitation at Dusun Kelor. So, following the previous program about recycling garbage, they were making an information board about garbage and how to classificate them. The garbage that fit into criteria are not thrown away; they are collected and will be sold for the villagers’ advantage. Next, the KKN team also give their help in accompanying outbond activities, tracking the river, and many of other village’s activites. As time passes, the KKN team said that they already feel that they were belong to Dusun Kelor.

The KKN team’s activities didn’t stop there. Knowing that Kelor is a historical village with a lot of potential for tourism, they tried to make a layout for museum at Joglo. Also, because Kelor is often become a destination for school trip, the KKN team tried to make a banner that contain information about the parts of Joglo. Not only that, they also made a booklet that contain brief history about Joglo Kelor. This booklet was made based on stories from a veteran, other history books, and the Vredeburg Musuem in Yogyakarta.

Still related with the tourism topic, the KKN team also made a new kind of packing for snake-fruit. Using small paperbag, tourist can buy snake-fruit in a small amount (around 6-8 snake-fruit per bag) when they visiting Dusun Kelor.

Lastly, seeing that there are many of international tourist in Yogyakarta, the KKN team tried to make an english version of Kelor tourism village’s website (www.dewikadjar.com). By making the contents available in english, the foreign tourist can get to know Kelor more than before. A brief video about Dusun Kelor were also made to introduce Kelor.

Unfortunately, the KKN team must go home before the independence day arrived. But, despite this unfortunate event, let’s hope that what already given by KKN PPM UGM 2016 can be remembered and can helped Dusun Kelor to develop as a better village.
